Breakout EDU

Hello and welcome back to another blog of mine. This week, we did something called "Breakout EDU". Breakout EDU is when you're in a room with a group of people and you have to get out. There is a briefcase inside and it contains something that will get you out. While you're looking for ways to get out, there are some clues hidden around the room which you can use and ask the guide a question. The guide will then give you a hint and then you have to give your clue card to the guide. Breakout EDU was very fun because we had to use teamwork and communication with one another. I hope we do this again because it was very fun.

Have you ever done Breakout EDU?

Bingo Card

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week, we were given a task to problem solve this bingo card. We had to try and problem solve the entire bingo card. The first task you had to do was a problem called "stairs to squares". Stairs to Squares was a maths problem that would challenge your brain. After you finished that, you could choose which ones you could do. There was one where you had to read a book on epic and then you had to make a book review on it. There was also another one where you had to go on google maps and look for this woman. There were many more that you could do.

This is what the bingo card looked like.

Have you ever done something like this?

Teacher Strike

Last Wednesday, the teachers went on strike. For that Wednesday, we didn't have school so I just stayed at home with my brother. My brother and I decided to play some games because we had no school. It got pretty boring until my mum came back from work. When my mum came back, we went to Riccarton mall and ate there and looked for some thing to buy.  We couldn't find anything so we decided to just eat some sushi there.  This year's teacher strike was more fun then last year because I went somewhere with my family.

What did you do this teacher strike?

Reading Predictions

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading, we had to read a book called "the pink Umbrella". For this book, we had to write what happened in the story and we had to summarise what happened in the book in 25 words. What you're about to see is what I did for this week of reading.

Rewriting Sentences

Hi. Today for our writing workshop, we had to rewrite some sentences in our speech. What you're  about to see are some of the sentences that I chose to rewrite.

We made Racism and we need to stop it because if we don’t, it could get worse because there are children and they haven’t unlocked their full potential. Some of these children could’ve done something to make the future easier or could’ve done something to help other people. These children might’ve grown up to become doctors, scientists or anything that would help our future so that we could live an easy and good life but Racism has gotten into the way of that. (Original)

We made Racism and we can fight to stop it because if we don’t, it could get more worse because there are children and they haven’t unlocked their full potential.
We made racism and it was one of our biggest mistakes in history. If we can’t stop racism, we at least need to do something to put it away for a bit of time. If we don't stop, more children will lose their lives. (Rewritten)

America, Great Britain, the Soviet Union and China teamed up against Germany, Italy and Japan to win WW2 and to stop Adolf Hitler's Reign. (Original)

During the war, three countries teamed up to stop the big threats. Those three countries were America, Great Britain, The Soviet Union and China teamed up against the big threats. The big threats were Germany, Italy and Japan. In order to finish the war, they had to defeat them. (Rewritten)

There have been many stereotypes about people who are black commit a lot of crimes and they leave their families but I think that people don’t have the right to make these jokes because they’re making fun of a colour and a race. (Original)

In our world, there is a lot of stereotypes. A lot of stereotypes are for black people because apparently they commit more crimes than everyone else or black men leave their families. I think that no one should have a right to make these kind of jokes. There are also some stereotypes that I've heard or seen that Asian people are more smarter then everyone else or they eat pets. I think that people were never given the right to make stereotypes of other peoples cultures. (Rewritten)

Have you ever heard a stereotype about someones race? If so, did you stand up, or let it slide. Be an upstander, not a bystander

Technology for term 2

For this term in technology, we have been doing cooking with our teacher named Mrs. Sullivan. She has taught us how to make many things like pizza tower, creamy pasta, wraps and more.  Everyday, we learn new things in the kitchen. I learnt how much sugar is in some drinks and I learnt how to use an oven. Every time we go there, we have books that we write in. In 1 page, we have a part where we say our duties and what we will do for that session. There are 4 duties and you have to rotate every time. There is a washing duty where you have to wash the dishes. There is a duty where you have to dry the dishes. Another duty is called unit duty where you have to check if the dishes are dry and you have to clean the table top, the oven and the stove. The last duty is extra duty where they ask Mrs. Sullivan if they can do anything and Mrs. Sullivan tells them what their job is. At the end of the day, we have to write down in our book about what we learnt that day.  Every term, we do something new. We rotate around the things that we can do. Last term, we did woodwork where we made a box and a key chain.

What can you cook?

My speech about racism

Just imagine, you wake up to go somewhere with your friends. You and yours friends enter a shop at the mall and right before you’re about to leave the shop, you get stopped for something.
You ask what it is and they tell you their suspicious about you just because of your colour.
What would you do?, what would you say?, What would happen?. Hi there, my names Brent and today I’m gonna talk about a big problem in our modern world today. In our world today, we fight a lot of problems like Sexism, Ableism, Religious Discrimination, Elitism and many more but there is also another problem that stands out.

That problem is called Racism. You might think that this is gonna be a speech that has the ideas that every other racism speech has but I hope this speech helps take down racism or can do something big. Racism is when you judge someone that is from a different country and you treat them differently from other people. Many people in the world have encountered this like a famous basketball player named Russell Westbrook who was playing in a game against the Utah Jazz when a Utah Jazz fan told Russell Westbrook to get back on his knees as a reference to slavery. When I was younger around 8 years old, I experienced Racism when my friend told me that I can’t play because of my race and my colour.

Back in the old days, there was a horrible time named segregation. Segregation was when a black person or someone from a different race could not be in a public place where white people were at and the black people couldn’t sit on a bench in the park. There were people in the world that fought against segregation like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, ETC. Without them, who knows how much longer Segregation would’ve be around.

Like all problems, Racism has effects. According to studies, Racism has made some children take their own lives due to Racism. We made Racism and we need to stop it because if we don’t, it could get more worse because there are children and they haven’t unlocked their full potential. Some of these children could’ve done something to make the future easier or could’ve done something to help other people. These children might’ve grown up to become doctors, scientists or anything that would help our future so that we could live an easy and good life but Racism has gotten into the way of that. We could stop racism but we would have to work together. People around the world have started to riot against racism and saying that it needs to stop. I agree with them as well.

A big problem that was with racism was WW2. Adolph Hitler was a leader of the German Nazis in WW2. Hitler thought that Germans were more stronger than everyone and they were different so they decided to do something. Hitler had one plan and that one plan was to get rid of every single jew that he could find. America, Great Britain, the Soviet Union and China teamed up against Germany, Italy and Japan to win WW2 and to stop Adolf Hitler's Reign. Adolf Hitler committed suicide during WW2 and that made Germany and the other leaders lose. During Hitler's reign of WW2, Hitler had so much control. Hitler had something named the concentration camps. In the concentration camps, they had prisoners and most of the prisoners were Jews. They forced the prisoners with forced labour and sometimes took their lives. As they were working, some prisoners got sent to extermination camps and got their lives taken away tragically. Hitler had something called gas chambers where the victims would be put inside of them and gas would spew out of the vents and you would eventually die. Hitler was a horrible man because of the things that he did and the things that he wanted. According to research, the amount of Jews killed in WW2 was 6 million.

Stereotypes. Stereotypes are when you say something about a culture or a race but you don’t know a single thing about them. There have been many stereotypes around the world like Asians can’t drive or see which is really bad because people are making fun of Asians when they don’t know a single thing about them. There have been many stereotypes about people who are black commit a lot of crimes and they leave their families but I think that people don’t have the right to make these jokes because they’re making fun of a colour and a race.

These are many examples of racism and if we don’t stop racism, these examples could evolve and get much more worse. I hope you enjoyed listening to my speech. I hope that this speech can do many things to stop racism. Thank you and goodbye.

What can you do stop racism?

Term 2 goals.

Hi there and welcome back to my blog.  It is now term 2 and I have some goals. My goals for this term is to get better at writing and maths. I'm getting a bit better at maths but I want to get even better. For writing, I have gotten good at writing. I know how to write complex sentences, I know how to use the correct grammar. At the end of the term, I will look back at this blog and see how much I have improved.

What are your goals for school?
